KY3 and KSPR in Springfield, Mo. won 31 awards in Missouri broadcast competition in May and June, highlighted by KY3 being named a National Edward R. Murrow award winner for excellence in electronic journalism.
The National Murrow award was in Video News Series category for small market TV stations and went to Paula Morehouse and Taka Yokoyama for their stories from Afghanistan titled “Bombing and Rebuilding: The Reality of War In Afghanistan”,
Morehouse and Yokoyama had previously won three Regional Murrow awards for Video News Series, Use of Video and Writing.
KY3 also won eight Missouri Broadcast Assn. awards and one SPJ award. KSPR won seven Missouri Broadcast Assn. awards and 12 Kansas City Press Club awards.
One unique achievement was by Jamie Dopp who swept the Public Service Announcement category, but with two different stations, a first with KY3 and a second with KSPR.
