Schurz Communications television stations won one national and seven regional Edward R. Morrow awards that recognize outstanding achievements in electronic journalism.

    Jason Lamb at KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska won the regional and then a national award in the Small Market Television Writing category with a three-story  entry: “The Unknown Musher,” “A couple feet of bad news” and “Turning darkness into light.”

    The other two regional winners from KTUU were Jason Moore in the Video News Series category and Ted Land and Dan Carpenter in the Video Feature Reporting category.

    WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Va. had two regional winners…Donald Graham and the 11 PM News Team won in the Best Breaking News Coverage category and Joe Dashiell, Rob Chewning, Lawrence Young and Dennis Brown won in the Best News Series category.

     Reporter Michael Schwanke at KWCH in Wichita, Kan. won a regional award in the Investigative Reporting category for his report on a pediatric dentist office performing unnecessary, detrimental work .

    Anchor Marie Saavedra and photojournalist Tim Leimkuhler from KY3 in Springfield, Mo. won a regional award in the Hard News Reporting category for their story called “VA Suicide.”
