Margaret Courtney has been appointed director of sales at The Hagerstown, MD Herald-Mail, editor and publisher John League has announced.
She has been with The Herald-Mail since July 2010. She has supervised The Herald-Mail’s call center, leading its transformation from a classified department to a full-service, inbound and outbound telesales center.
Margaret has worked in the media business for 16 years.
Prior to joining The Herald-Mail, she was advertising sales director for American Community Newspapers in Leesburg, Va. She has also worked as classified manager for Times Community Newspapers, and served as classified-new business development manager for Gazette Newspapers in Gaithersburg, Md.
She replaces Larry Effingham, who was named publisher of the Cumberland Times-News, Cumberland, Md.
“Margaret is a real professional who not only understands but embraces the changing nature of the media business, “ League said. “She’s already made a big contribution to our company.”
Margaret was raised in Washington, D.C.
In her spare time, she enjoys Mentoring, (actually received a Congressional Proclamation from Congresswoman Morrella for mentoring) coaching (this is with an athletic association) and trying out new food recipes on her family.
