KDCU-DT began broadcasting “Noticias Univision Kansas” on April 20, a nightly newscast that delivers the latest local, state, national and international news in Spanish. Produced from the KWCH-TV 12 newsroom, “Noticias Univision Kansas” airs at 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
KDCU–DT will serve the fastest-growing population in the Wichita/Hutchinson DMA. Of the 64 counties in the DMA, 60 saw an increase in its Hispanic population over the last ten years, according to the 2010 Census. Hispanics now represent 10.5% of
“There’s a real need for local information in our Spanish-speaking community. We’re going to serve the Hispanic community in Kansas with a newscast produced for them and about them,” said KWCH-TV News Director Chad Cross.
“We are filling a tremendous void in the local Kansas market and we know ‘Noticias Univision Kansas’ will be a reliable source of local information for Spanish speaking viewers. We’ve launched local newscasts across our Entravision station group and they’ve been well-received in every market,” said Entravision News Director Jorge Friguls. “We are excited about the partnership with KWCH-TV as we provide the Hispanic community of Kansas with the most relevant and up-to-date news.”
“Noticias Univision Kansas” will provide comprehensive news and weather coverage from around Kansas, with a focus on the Wichita metro area and southwest Kansas, where the Hispanic population is largest. “Noticias Univision Kansas” will be anchored by new local talent, Marco Alcocer, who is joined by reporter Marielkis Salazar and Storm Team weather anchor Guevara. Photojournalist Alejandra Rojas will also provide coverage from Southwest Kansas.
KDCU-DT is the first full-power local Spanish-language television station to serve the Wichita DMA. Its signal over-the-air, on satellite and cable reaches 457,880 households. The evening newscast is available on Cox Cable Channels 15/2015 HD, and on DIRECTV, Dish Network and over-the-air Channel 31.
