SCI newspapers win 42 Indiana contest awards

Schurz Communications Indiana newspapers won 42 awards in the Hoosier State Press Association 2010 Better Newspaper Contest.
The Bloomington Herald-Times won 19 of the awards, including the General Excellence award for newspapers in the 18,001 to 39,999 circulation category.

Schurz Communications Indiana newspapers won 22 awards in the Associated Press Managing Editors Association annual contest.
Winners were announced at the awards banquet in May.
The Bloomington Herald-Times won 15 awards, including eight firsts, three seconds and four thirds.

The Gaylord Herald Times’ editorial department received six awards in the Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA) 2010 Editorial Contest. The Herald Times competed in the Class-A non-daily newspaper category with a circulation of up to 8,000, with the exception of sports, which was judged against all sports submissions.

The Central Michigan University Hall of Fame organizing committee has named Jeremy Speer, editor of the Gaylord Herald Times, the 2011 Young Journalist of the Year.
Speer, a 2005 Central Michigan graduate who majored in journalism, was promoted to editor in Gaylord in April after serving as the paper’s sports editor for nearly six years.

The web width for the Hoosier Times publications press has been reduced from 50 inches to 44 inches.
The Bloomington press prints the Bloomington Herald Times, The Sunday Hoosier Times, The Martinsville Reporter Times and the Mooresville Times.
The web reduction meant major mechanical modifications to the double-wide KBA press in Bloomington.
